Can rub on creams help you to lose weight? There are quite a few different varieties of creams available. Let's take a look at some of them:
Hooderma Weight Loss Cream
The main component of this cream is hoodia gordonii. This is a chemical extracted from the hoodia cactus plant. It's of interest to people trying to lose weight because it may suppress the appetite. The claim of the cream manufacturers is that it will work by absorbing in through your skin to supress your appetite. There doesn't appear to be any scientific evidence to support this and logically one would think an appetite suppressant would have to target either the stomach or the brain, for this to happen the chemical would have to enter your skin and end up in the blood stream. Any cream which actually gets absorbed into the blood stream through the skin sounds quite frightening.
Hoodia gordonii is also available in many weight loss pills, this sounds like it has a bit more potential to work, but there is a fairly extensive list of warnings that come with these pills. You should take it if you have pregnant or have thyroid diseas, high blood pressure, glaucoma, dibetes, parkinson's, enlarged prostate or heart disease. So it obviously has a few side effects apart from suppressing the appetite, as always it's best not to take chances with your health especially when the evidence for it helping to lose weight is quite limited.
Cellulite Reduction Creams
Cellulite is merely fat under the skin causing a dimpled appearance, so any cream claiming to reduce cellulite would have to be capable of dissolving fat. It's a nice thought, but probably just wishful thinking. It is possible that some cellulite reduction creams don't actually remove the cellulite but just tighten the skin to reduce the apperance of dimples, this is more likely to work.
Some of the popular brands are Body Sculpt Cellulite Cream and medik8 Lipomelt Forte Cellulite Cream. As with so many products the only people that seem to think it works are those selling it.
