It seems that everyone wants to have great abdominal muscles so they can look their best. Fortunately there is a quick way to strengthen and tone your abs without even leaving the couch. Leg lifts are a fantastic exercise that can bring you all of the benefits of strong abs. This article will show you how to motivate yourself and exactly how to do leg lifts and mosty importantly get fantastic abs.
TV, the Great Motivator?
Motivation is essential for any exercise routine, luckily the TV which is usually the worst enemy of any exercise program will become the source of motivation. We've all been there, sitting on the couch watching someone on TV who has great abs ... wishing that we could have abs like that. But that's as far as most of us get, just wishing. That's all about to change though, next time this happens you're going to do a set of leg lifts, right there on the couch.
How to do Leg Lifts
The leg lifts you're going to do while sitting on the couch are a modified version of the floor leg lifts shown in the video below. To do the couch version just sit with your butt on the front edge of the couch and lean back with your arms out to the side for support. This is your basic position, now just do the leg lifts as shown in the video.
How Often?
How often will you need to do leg lifts to get better abs? At first 1 set of 10 reps daily should be enough to stimulate muscle growth. But you'll find your muscles will quickly get stronger and this won't provide enough of a challenge. So you can work up to doing 3-4 sets each day, this may sound like a lot but each set will only take a minute or so. When you are able to to 3-4 sets without to much trouble you should add some days where you make the exercise harder. Switching to doing the leg lifts on the floor will make it quite a bit harder and allow you to continue making progress. This doesn't stricktly go with the couch theme but you won't need to go far. Once you're doing full floor leg lifts each day you should have a great set of ab muscles, you may not be able to see them if they are covered by too much fat.
Lose Belly Flab
If you've got a significant amount of belly flab you'll need to lose some of that fat as well as working building bigger abdominal muscles. This is where general weight loss techniques come into play ... aerobic workouts, stength routines and healthy eating are all great ways to lose that fat especially if you combine them.
You've seen a way to motivate yourself, you know how to workout your abs and lose excess fat from your belly. Now all you need to do is plop yourself down on the couch and get started!
